MADISON – David Chisgar has announced his candidacy to represent District 1 on Madison City Council.

Madison’s municipal election will be held on Aug. 23.

“I feel very fortunate to live in this community. Madison is a unique city with unlimited potential. I want to be a voice for smart growth — to keep our schools top notch, improve our infrastructure and strengthen business development,” Chisgar said.

“We have some truly wonderful local businesses that deserve our city’s support to continue to thrive,” he said.

Chisgar and his wife Matti have two children about to enter Madison City Schools. “I have a deep commitment to ensuring our district receives the funding it needs and deserves. I also want to see our roads and parks improved,” Chisgar said.

He believes that Madison “needs to value its current business owners, as well as seek new retail, restaurants and entertainment. Revenue generated from business sales tax is vital to smart growth,” he said.

The Chisgars have lived in Madison for 10 years. “Our ties to this community are very strong. Our youngest son, three years old, was born in Madison Hospital not too long after it began deliveries. Our five-year-old is excited about starting kindergarten this fall at West Madison Elementary School,” he said.

Chisgar works as an engineer on Redstone Arsenal. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of South Florida. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

An active member of Trinity Baptist Church, Chisgar volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and currently is enjoying helping coach his son’s T-ball team at Hogan Family YMCA.

Tim Holcombe currently represents District 1 but announced earlier this week that he will not seek re-election.
