MADISON – At Petunias’ Southern Essentials, Delia Lindsey shares ideas in home decor, vintage and handmade crafts and ‘farmhouse chic.’

Petunias’ address is 105 Church St., Suite in downtown Madison.

“My house was overrun with my creations. The store was partially a self-preservation decision,” Lindsey said. “I’m crazy about how space and color … can totally change the overall mood of a room.”

At the shop, Lindsey appreciates help from her mother, two daughters and uncle. “There’s a reason for the ‘s’ at the end of Petunias. Many hands keep us up and running,” Lindsey said.

Her maternal grandfather’s work with clocks nurtured Lindsey’s love of antiques. “The more over-the-hill or time-worn a piece is, the more beautiful,” she said.

Petunias’ collectibles have an extra purpose. At Christmas, they sold antique salad cruets with orange peel, rosemary, cranberries, oil and a ceramic ball wick to create small oil lamps.

“We carry Heritage Soap and Candle Co. The 3-Ring Traveling Apothecary has wonderful all-natural candles, scrubs and body lotions. Our number-one best-seller is the all-natural sinus bombs from The Apothecary Project,” Lindsey said.

Petunia’s sells Iron Angel, a steampunk-inspired jewelry line made of antique and vintage clock and watch parts. B3 is a more organically inspired leather and bead line of jewelry that gives a dual purpose.

“We have handmade, exotic wood cutting boards,” Lindsey said. “Our stained glass butterflies, dragonflies and art by Blue Iris Glass are beautiful. Neal Stephens’ handmade wood and glass recipe book holders are one-of-a-kind.”

The cookbook “A Peek Into My Recipe Collection” by Carolyn Stephens assembles tried-and-true recipes. Stephens is donating proceeds to help Parkinson’s disease research.

A Madison resident since 1976, Delia graduated from Bob Jones High School. Her children now attend Madison City Schools.

Petunias’ is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays noon to 5 p.m. and extended hours each first Friday for the Food Truck Round-up in downtown Madison. Check with Lindsey about crafts classes that individuals can enroll in.
