Slow Roll to benefit Triana club

HUNTSVILLE, TRIANA – The first annual North Alabama Slow Roll will benefit a worthy group in Triana, the Williams Branch of North Alabama Boys & Girls Club.

The North Alabama Slow Roll is a family-oriented, slow-rolling bicycle rally. “Participants from ages 5 through 99 years old are encouraged to bring their bicycles,” publicist Pam McDonald said.

The starting location will be Raytheon Corporation at 401 Jan Davis Drive Northwest in Huntsville on the Cummings Research Park campus. The event will open at 7 a.m. and run until about 10 a.m. Participants should prepare to depart on bicycles together at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 20.

The group will follow pre-set routes. A primary route with approximately eight miles will be open, along with a secondary route for approximately two miles for families with small children. The routes will be well marked, and officers with Huntsville Police Department will control automobile traffic to protect the riders.

At completion of the ride, participants can enjoy snacks and drinks.

The cost is $30 for adults and $10 for teens from 13 to 17 years old. Children who are five to 12 years old will be permitted to ride for free.

All riders most wear helmets, or they will not allowed to enter the slow roll. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes.

Bicycle mechanics from Madison Cycles will be available before the race for those riders whose bikes need slight tune-ups. “Come join us in a fun ride for a worthy cause,” McDonald said.

To register for this event, visit nalslowroll.eventbrite.com. Online registration will be open through Aug. 18. Onsite registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Aug. 20. Rolling will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who most need the organization, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Boys and Girls Clubs offer a dedicated youth facility that is open daily with professional staff and is affordable to all youth.
