MADISON- High school marching bands and football return to Discovery’s Panther Field Friday night for the first time in several years.

St. John Paul II football team will play their home games at Discovery and open the season by hosting West Morgan Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m.

The Falcons play in Class 5A, Region 8. They also have home games August 26, Sept. 2, Sept. 16, and Oct. 14.  St. John Paul II Catholic High School is located at 7301 Old Madison Pike.

John Mumford is the first year coach of the Falcons.

Workers were at the football field Thursday putting the final touches on. The scoreboard had to be fixed and was working. The 25-second clocks are not working.

Discovery Athletic Director Kevin Wilson is the liaison with SJP II and makes sure the event runs smoothly.

“We do allow them to rent our facility,” Wilson said in a statement. “We make sure that the fields are lined, access to lights, press box and dressing rooms. We also have an employee that stays with them the entire night to give them the access they need. This has been happening for a few years.”
