MADISON – Officers in Madison Police Department may be sporting a shaggy look, but their lack of grooming is all for a good cause.
Madison officers will participate in No-Shave November through Dec. 31. To earn this privilege, officers have agreed to make charitable contributions to Madison Animal Rescue Foundation (MARF) and to Madison Police Foundation.
Following standard rules, personnel of Madison Police Department are not authorized to have beards or goatees. However, officers will be allowed to grow and wear this type of facial hair for the months of November and December.
“So, if you see or meet an officer in Madison Police Department in uniform who has a beard, we are not letting ourselves go, just giving back to these organizations that support us in our efforts to serve and protect,” a police spokesperson said.
The Madison Animal Rescue Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization that saves animals from the City of Madison. Volunteers founded and continue to operate MARF. The group’s mission is to rescue as many homeless animals as possible and to develop an adoption program.
MARF provides services to the police department and community by assisting with animal placement, rehabilitation, fostering and other services for animals that are strays or cannot be reunited with owners.
The Madison Police Foundation, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, is supported by the community to promote business and citizen participation in maintaining a safe community. As a link between the police and the public they serve, the foundation provides support beyond the realm of traditional resources allocated within the city’s budget.
Madison Police Foundation supports officers and their families with services and events, along with assisting with programs like Kids Camp, Too Good for Drugs, Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), RAD-Kids and additional life insurance coverage for officers.
City of Madison Police Department’s address is 100 Hughes Road in City Hall. For an emergency, 911. For situations that are not emergencies, call 256-772-5658.
