MADISON – The City of Madison started street sweeping on Feb. 6.

A map on the city website shows the streets scheduled for sweeping. Visit www.madisonal.gov (you must type “www” in this link); in the “News & Announcements” section, click “Citywide Street Sweeping.” Then, click “Map of Affected Streets.”

Weather permitting, workers will finish street sweeping by Feb. 20. Officials ask residents of these streets to refrain from parking vehicles on or placing any items in the roadway between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Residents should place trash receptacles and recycle bins behind the curb during the time for weekly pickup.

The street sweeping program is aimed at improving the quality of storm-water runoff. City officials remind residents to avoid placing leaves, grass clippings, trash and fertilizers near storm drains. Do not dump motor oil, chemicals, pet waste, dirty or soapy water or other substances down a storm drain.
