MCS issues revised calendar for 2018-2019

MADISON – School leaders listened to complaints about the first draft of the calendar for the 2018-2019 school year. Central Office personnel have updated the calendar and released a revised draft.

“We heard your concerns and have addressed them,” MCS Superintendent Robby Parker said.

“We added a full week for Fall Break. It will be the week of Oct. 15-19. This will allow all 9-week tests to be given prior to the break,” he said. “Collaborative days are moved back to Friday.”

“We are starting on Tuesday, Aug. 7. This allows for a longer summer break and does not require the students attend a full week for their first week back,” he said.

“I hope everyone likes this calendar draft better. We listened to your concerns and made as many adjustments as possible. I truly hope everyone is happy,” Parker said.

Teachers will report for Institute Day, professional development and teacher workdays on Aug. 2, 3 and 6, 2018. Aug. 7, 2018 will be the first day of school, and students will report to class.

Labor Day will be the first observed holiday on Sept. 3, 2018, followed by Veterans Day, Nov. 12; Thanksgiving, Nov. 21-23; and two weeks for winter break from Dec. 24, 2018 to Jan. 4, 2019. Dec. 21, 2018 is the last day of first semester. In 2019, Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed on Jan. 21.

After winter break, teachers will report for professional development/workdays on Jan. 2-4, 2019. Classes will resume for students on Jan. 7, 2019.

A full week, Fall Break will be observed on Oct. 15-19, 2018. Also one week, students and teachers will take Spring Break on March 18-22, 2019.

Graduation for both Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools will be held on May 20, 2019. The end of second semester will be May 23, 2019; students will attend one-half day and dismiss for summer vacation. A teacher workday will be held on May 24.
