Class of 2007 founds Bob Jones scholarship

MADISON – Alumni in the Class of 2007 at Bob Jones High School have decided on a medium for perpetual help to students at their alma mater.

The 2007 graduates will return for their 10-year class reunion this weekend, coinciding with the 2017 homecoming weekend for Bob Jones.

“In partnership with Madison City Schools and Bob Jones High School, the class of 2007 on Oct. 20 will begin a new Bob Jones alumni tradition,” Bob Jones Assistant Principal Amy Thaxton said. “This weekend, their class will make the initial contribution to the new Bob Jones High School Alumni and Community Partners Scholarship Endowment Fund.”

Months before their reunion, 2007 classmates brainstormed about how to make a lasting difference at Bob Jones. “This need-based scholarship will support Bob Jones seniors who dream of going to college and have worked hard to achieve that goal,” Thaxton said.

The Class of 2007 asks the community to consider joining them in establishing this important scholarship endowment fund. The one-time contribution will provide life-changing support to Bob Jones students for years to come.

“We’ve heard some sad stories about students who dreamed of going to college and worked hard to get good grades and test scores. However, they were ultimately unable to fulfill their dreams due to a lack of financial support,” Class of 2007 President James Fowler said.

“Please consider what you may be able to give to support these fellow Patriots. Let’s change the lives of these Bob Jones students with $5, $50 or $500 at a time,” Fowler said. The alumni and sponsor will enlist a professional investor to manage the funds.

For its reunion weekend, the Class of 2007 will tailgate on Oct. 20, attend the Patriots football game and then meet at Old Black Bear in downtown Madison. On Oct. 21, alumni families will tour renovations at Bob Jones, and classmates then will gather for a party at Campus 805 in Huntsville.
