MCS 10-Year Strategic Plan: State your opinion now

MADISON – Robby Parker, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, is asking residents for their input on a few questions. The feedback will help Parker, Madison Board of Education and MCS staff to produce the district’s 10-year strategic plans.

“One of the things that makes us an outstanding school district is the strong partnership we enjoy with the community,” Parker said. “You demonstrated that with overwhelming approval of the school tax renewals. The board and I, along with our Madison City Schools team, sincerely thank you for that.”

Another key to the partnership is communication with stakeholders, Parker said.

At this link, the seven questions will help school leaders to design the blueprint for Madison City Schools for the next decade and beyond.

First on the form, the individual needs to identify himself/herself as a student, employee, student’s parent or a resident without children in school.

Two curriculum-related questions are listed. The first asks what types of curricular offerings that you want added to MCS classes. In addition, what offerings in fine arts do you want to see available in elementary and middle school grades?

The next questions relate to use of facilities:

* What amenities do you want in school facilities that currently are not available?

* Parents have stated that they want more space for the performing arts at elementary and middle schools. Should this space exist as one centralized performing arts facility that all these schools share? If not, what ideas do you have?

* Are the current athletic facilities sufficient for students? If not, what additional athletic facilities or amenities do you want added?

The next section lists each school and asks the individual’s comfort level with population size for schools that apply to that family. A range of answers, from “Just right” to “We need another school,” is listed.

The last question asks, “What information would you like to share with me that would make your child’s education even better than we hope it has been?”

“Your ideas are important, whether you are a parent, student, employee or community member without children in school,” Parker said.

Deadline to reply is Jan. 7, 2018.
