MCCO to perform ‘The Conductor’s Showcase’ on July 6

MADISON – For its summer concert, Madison City Community Orchestra or MCCO will present “The Conductor’s Showcase” with a crowd-pleasing program that will range from patriotic tunes to themes from blockbuster movies.

“This is a concert that allows not only community players to participate but the assistant conductors to conduct as well, Allison Edgecomb and Hobbs Hundley,” MCCO Director Sandy Weisner said.

MCCO’s summer concert will be performed on July 6 at 6 p.m. at Madison United Methodist Church at 127 Church St. “The concert will be casual. We will have popcorn and snacks and a great silent auction,” Weisner said.

For “The Conductor’s Showcase,” MCCO musicians will play “various fan favorites. We will honor our country’s birth with ‘Stars and Stripes.’ Fan favorites will include ‘The Pink Panther,’ ‘Night and Day’ and Hollywood milestones,” Weisner said.

“We will give a sneak preview of our 2018 fall concert that will feature superheroes and ‘Star Wars.’ We will play the themes from ‘Superman,’ ‘Spiderman’ and others. A surprise hero will make an appearance,” she said.

MCCO then will honor 40 years of “Star Wars” films. In addition, MCCO will reprise Movement 4 from Dvorak’s “New World Symphony,” an audience favorite from their 2018 spring concert.

MCCO’s fall concert will be held at James Clemens High School on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The orchestra will announce details for a costume contest in coming weeks.

MCCO Board of Directors members are President Robert Prince, Vice President Nancy Perry, Secretary Jessica Hunt, Treasurer Natalie Frazier, General Manager Aprell Robinson, Librarian Sue Kula, Fundraising Coordinator Jan Mason, Webmaster Danielle Bryant and Youth Representatives Susanna Edgecomb and Catherine Irrgang.

MCCO, a 501(C)3 organization, accepts new players with four years’ of experience. The orchestra currently needs players for all string parts and percussion.
