Jets Lead Local Schools At Panther Prowl
Local teams, led by James Clemens, participated in the annual Panther Prowl cross country meet.

Jets Lead Local Schools At Panther Prowl

NEW MARKET- The Class 7A action at the second annual Huntsville Panther Prowl cross country meet was swift and competitive as student-athletes representing the three local schools in the highest classification among high schools in Alabama finished with excellent times.

Held at Sharon Johnston Park in New Market, the host and No. 1 state ranked Panthers won both the boys gold (32 points) and silver (33) divisions while Independence, Tenn. (44) took the girls gold and Guntersville (47) handled the girls silver division. Ninth state ranked James Clemens (180) finished runner-up in the girls gold while the sixth state ranked Jets finished fourth (142) in the boys gold and sixth (180) in the boys silver. Bob Jones (222) was eighth in boys gold and silver (218) divisions and finished No. 10 (245) in the girls gold. Sparkman (377) was No. 12 in the silver boys and ninth (237) in girls gold.

In the boys gold (elite runners) 5K, the top local finishers included No. 13- Matthew Hill (So.), James Clemens, 17:17.39, No. 18- Brian Morton (Sr.), Bob Jones, 17:24.35, No. 21- Patrick Neel (Sr.), James Clemens, 17:40.88, No. 35- Bradley Spindle (Jr.), Bob Jones, 18:21.51.

In boys silver, results included No. 20- Rajesh Patel (Sr.), James Clemens, 20:17.18, No. 30- Colin Spindle (Fr.), Bob Jones, 20:35.85, No. 72- Adam Depew (Sr.), Sparkman, 22:22.57.

In girl’s gold, top finishers included No. 6- Elizabeth Holcomb (Sr.), James Clemens, 21:04.11, No. 21- Hannah Thuss (So.), Bob Jones, 22:18.33, No. 31- Sarah Shirley (So.), James Clemens, 22:54.96, No. 47- Caroline Moody (Sr.), Sparkman, 24:49.64, No. 50- Elisha Jones (Jr.), Sparkman, 25:08.88, No. 57- Gloria Trapane (Jr.), Bob Jones, 25:48.69.

Girl’s silver featured No. 13- Line Helmich (Jr.), Bob Jones, 26:45.59.

In the junior high boys division (2-mile), Huntsville was first (21) while James Clemens took third (63) and Sparkman sixth (169). Individual results included No.2- Isaul Rubio Montano (Fr.), James Clemens, 12:18.61, No. 5- Tyler Gohlich (Fr.), James Clemens, 12:26.61, No. 17- Andrew Hoggard (Fr.), Sparkman, 13:13.69, No. 47- Daniel Hovermale, (Fr.), Sparkman, 14:32.70, No. 49- Isaac Allen (Fr.), Bob Jones, 14:39.01.

In junior high girls, Scottsboro (29) took first place while James Clemens (59) was runner-up and Sparkman (186) was seventh. Top finishes were No. 2- Sydney Freeman (Fr.), James Clemens, 14:28.18, No. 9- Nikki Lipski (Fr.), James Clemens, 15:20.78, No. 14-  Madi Digges (Fr.), Bob Jones, 15:38.28, No. 20- Anna Digges (Fr.), Bob Jones, 16:03.51, No. 46- Afton Hopkins (Fr.), Sparkman, 17:54.18.
