Devan Davis to present concert at VBC

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville native Devan Davis will return to his hometown and present his show, “The Awakening of a New Year,” at the Von Braun Center Playhouse.

Davis’ show is a live concert full of drama, music, poetry, film, comedy and dance. The curtain will open on Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. for the two-hour show.

A graduate of Lee High School, Davis is known professionally as ‘Epic Narrative.’ His concert will include other Huntsville and American artists, including an illusionist, poets, rappers and dancers who are scheduled to perform.

“This production will indeed be entertaining,” Davis said, “but it will also explore the modern-day struggles that young adults face, such as building relationships, drugs, human rights and identity. It is meant to inspire artistic centennials to not lose sight of their dreams despite an ever-changing world.”

Davis, 20, vividly remembers learning that his mother passed away when he was 14 years old. “I sat for hours in my room crying and listening to ‘Seasons of Love’ from the hit musical ‘Rent,'” he said. Then, he went to a play rehearsal.

“Artistry has always been my escape,” Davis said. “After years of fighting through depression and financial instability, I feel that I am defying all expectations of failure. All credit goes to God and the theatre he brought me to.”

At Lee, Davis graduated in 2016 in the top 10 percent of his class. With help of a local benefactor, Davis flew to New York City and has been enrolled in a bachelor of fine arts acting program at Brooklyn College. In less than two years in New York, he has developed his own stage show, which he now is bringing to Huntsville.

Since his arrival in the big city two years ago, Davis has attacked show business head on. He is eager to share what he has learned with the Epic Narrative performance.

Advance tickets cost $15.50 through Dec. 30 by visiting TheEpicNarrative.com; select the “Upcoming Events” tab. Tickets will cost $25 at the event.
