United AYSO teams reach gold finalist in Decatur

MADISON – Soccer teams in AYSO United Alabama claimed places as finalists in the Alabama Jr. Cup Tournament held at Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur.

“The weather was cold and wet all weekend, the teams battled sickness and minor injuries, but, in the end, the sun was shining on the AYSO United program,” Joe Mullins said. Mullins is Club Administrator for AYSO United Alabama, which is the club arm of AYSO.

“Congratulations to all our fierce competition for overcoming adversities and playing with the sportsmanship, flair and enthusiasm that make soccer, ‘The Beautiful Game,'” Mullins said.

In the Alabama Jr. Cup contest, the AYSO United team B2005 U14 was a gold finalist. Also claiming the title of gold finalist was AYSO United B2004 U15.

“Many thanks to the AYSO United staff for all their continuing learning, self-less service and dedication to making our program what it is today,” he said.

AYSO United’s coaching staff includes Tommy Byers, Jim Green, Joe Mullins and Michael Parker. Team managers are Lisa Husser and Devonee Woods.

AYSO United was organized as a new sports organization for this region in late 2017. “AYSO United – North Alabama encourages boys and girls to try out,” Mullins said.

In 2016, AYSO opened 17 club-level programs across the country. “With much support from AYSO National, Alabama Soccer Association and local volunteers, we were proud of AYSO United – North Alabama,” Mullins said.

The organization’s mission is “Development Over Winning,” which means that each player will have 50 percent playing time, Mullins said. AYSO United – North Alabama has locations in Madison, Huntsville, Arab, Cullman, Hartselle, Danville, Athens, Guntersville and surrounding communities.

“Our club is committed to providing our players with the opportunity to play against other club programs the AYSO way,” Mullins said. “We are committed to quality coaching and a positive experience.”
