Calhoun to host job fair preparation seminar Feb. 6-8

HUNTSVILLE — For those in need of a second chance in the workforce, Calhoun Community College and the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce have two helpful opportunities coming up.

From Feb. 6-8, Calhoun Community College will be hosting a job fair preparation seminar designed to help people prepare for the chamber’s “Second Chance Job Fair” Feb. 27. The job fair will be held in partnership with the Alabama Career Center, the Alabama Community College System, nonprofits and community agencies. “The goal is to help bridge the gap between under-resourced job seekers and employers,” said Claire Aiello, vice president of marketing and communications for the chamber.

Calhoun’s job fair preparation seminar will offer two sessions per day for a total of six opportunities to attend, though attendees need only choose one session. Each day, the first session will last from 9 a.m. – noon, and the second session will take place shortly after from 1-4 p.m.

According to Aiello, the purpose of the seminar is to help people prepare for a job interview. The seminar will consist of mock interviews, career evaluations, help with resumés, pointers on how to dress for success and other tips to help candidates be successful at the Feb. 27 job fair, as well as other future opportunities.

The Second Chance Job Fair Feb. 27 is for “anyone who needs a second chance,” Aiello said. “It could be people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, have little work history, or maybe who have been previously incarcerated or who struggled with addiction. Or, people who haven’t been in the workforce for a while, but want to return and aren’t sure how to start.”
