Dublin to host Easter egg hunts on April 20

MADISON – Children can grab a basket and enjoy city-sanctioned egg hunts on the Saturday before Easter.

The City of Madison will open the first event, the Easter ‘Egg’stravaganza and Kite Festival, at 10 a.m. on April 20. The hunt will take place on Soccer Fields 1 and 2 at Dublin Park.

“Join the City of Madison, Rocket City Martial Arts, 104.3 WZYP and the Easter Bunny for a day filled with fun,” Gayle Milam said. Milam works as the City of Madison’s Event and Volunteer Coordinator.

“We will have children’s activities, egg hunts, kite demonstrations by Chicago Kite, vendors, magic show and much more,” Milam said.

The egg hunt for children who are up to five years old will start at 10 a.m. on Soccer Field 1. For six- through 10-year-olds, the egg hunt will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Soccer Field 1.

Inflatable amusements will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Soccer Field 2. “The first 300 children will receive a free kite,” Milam said.

Handicap parking only will be open at Dublin Park. All other visitors must park at Bob Jones High School in the south parking area. The city will provide shuttle service at no charge to Dublin. Shuttle service from Bob Jones to Dublin (and return trips) will begin at 9 a.m.

In addition, another special event is on the schedule for April 20 with the Special Needs Easter Eggstravaganza. This activity will open with check-in/registration at 1:30 p.m. at Dublin.

Sponsors for this ‘eggstravaganza’ include the City of Madison, Madison City Disability Advocacy Board, Making Connections and Madison Adaptive Sports program.

Three egg hunts are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. A hunt will be open to children up to 10 years old; another for 11 to 15 years old; and 16-year-olds and older.

“Easter Bunny photos, games, activities and refreshments will be available from 2:30 to 4 p.m.,” Milam said. “The event will be held rain or shine.”

Pre-registration is required. To pre-register, visit mc@autism-alabama.org.

Easter Day falls on April 21 in 2019.
