Madison teen dies after being shot in Decatur

DECATUR – An 18-year-old Madison man shot in Decatur on Tuesday has died, according to Decatur police.

Malachi Thomas McCray “was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries” on Wednesday, said Decatur police spokeswoman Emily Long. “The investigation is now classified as a homicide.”

Long said no charges have been filed, and the case will be presented to a Morgan County grand jury.

Decatur police responded to a reported shooting Tuesday at about 12:31 a.m., according to police. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound, who was transported to the hospital.

Detectives said Tuesday they had identified all parties involved in the incident.
