Barry to speak to Republican Women of Madison on March 18

MADISON – At its monthly meeting, Republican Women of Madison will hear George Barry’s thoughts as a pro-life activist.

The club will meet on March 18 at Best Western Plus, 9035 Madison Blvd. Social time will open the meeting at 11 a.m., followed by the luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. “We look forward to seeing you there,” Second Vice President Glenda Neill said.

Barry will discuss the latest happenings in the pro-life movement. In 1978, he moved from Nashville to live in Madison. He started his own company, Rep Company, in 1983.

As one of nine children, Barry got involved with the pro-life movement “because my mother would have killed me if I had not. You see she had 12 kids, and nine of us lived,” he said jokingly.

“In 1981, I started going one day a week to the pro-life sidewalk ministry on Longwood. In 1993, I helped start ‘Life Home’ with a house donated by J.V. and Jennette Balch,” Barry said.

Today, several pro-life sidewalk counselors visit Sparkman and Gallatin each week. For the past 20 years, Barry has been involved in pro-life legislation by the Alabama State Legislature. He helps lead a group of numerous denominations that pray for one hour on Saturdays at Sparkman.

Barry was a member of the Madison County Republican Executive Committee for 15 years. He served with the State Republican Executive Committee for six years and ran for U.S. Congress, 5th District in 2008 and the Alabama State Senate in 2011.

For lunch reservations, email repwomenmadison@gmail.com with your name and indicate choice of either entree or a salad with chicken. Meal cost is $15, which can be paid at the event with cash or check (payable to Port of Madison).

Active membership is open to any woman who supports the Republican Women of Madison’s objectives. Active members receive regular communications via email and have voting rights. Annual dues are $40.

The club meets monthly on third Wednesdays. For more information, email repwomenmadison@gmail.com or visit republicanwomenofmadison.com or Facebook/Republican Women of Madison.
