MADISON COUNTY – Madison County Sheriff’s investigators are warning citizens about a local scam that is circulating throughout the area involving a local business.
According to the sheriff’s department, investigators have learned that several scammers posing as employees of Bad Boy Bail Bonding in Huntsville have gained personal information about the families of incarcerated inmates and are asking for Green Dot MoneyPak cards and/or Cashapp transactions in order to post bonds for the inmate’s family members.
“The unknown suspects are identifying themselves as ‘Terry Brown’ and ‘Wayne’ and are calling from area codes 205 and 251 telephone numbers,” officials with the MCSO said.
They added bonding companies do not operate like this and the owner of Bad Boy Bonding has asked that if you feel you are a victim under these circumstances to notify them at 256-880-5245.
In addition to this scam, the MSCO sad they have seen an uptick in telephone scams that involve individuals claiming to be either deputies, MCSO employees or other local government employees.
Officials with the MCSO said they received reports from local citizens that they had received a message from MCSO Lieutenant Cody Davis and requested a telephone call back.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents they will never call and demand money, gift cards, Bitcoin, or Google Play cards from the public. Scammers create a fake caller ID, which allows them to call you and appear to be calling from local police, sheriff, or other law enforcement agency. They say there is a warrant out for your arrest, but that you can pay a fine to avoid criminal charges.
They advise residents to never divulge personal or financial information about themselves to unknown callers.
