St. John Gala on Feb. 26 to have ‘Totally Awesome 80s’ theme

MADISON – The days of outlandish hair and massive shoulder pads will return for an evening at “Totally Awesome 80s,” the St. John the Baptist Catholic School 2022 Gala.

The gala will open at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

Gala Chairs Joe Pignataro and Jon Yobs invite people to travel back in time to the most ‘Totally Awesome’ decade ever. In its 23rd year, the gala generates proceeds that benefit St. John the Baptist Catholic School.

The evening will include a plated dinner and dessert, complimentary beer and wine, exciting games, casino tables and a vintage arcade. For live entertainment, Bueller, Nashville’s premier 1980s tribute band, will perform for the partygoers.

The gala will conclude at 10:15 p.m. with the drawing for the $10,000 raffle. (A guest does not need to be present to win.) However, organizers hope that guests will stay and dance until the wee hours to the 1980s ‘after prom’ with the band.

Reminiscent of a favorite pastime in the 1980s, ‘the mall’ will be open for browsing the silent auction. The auction’s online platform allows guests to track bidding.

A guest can exchange a midway ticket for one game:

* Three spins of the Wine Wheel.

* Three puck drops on the Plinko board, straight from “The Price Is Right.”

* Four tokens for the vintage 80’s prize arcade.

* $1,000 in Casino Cash to casino games.

* Head & Tails tickets.

* Bingo. Three Bingo games will be open throughout the night. A guest can play as many cards per game as desired.

Totally Awesome 80’s is open to all guests who are at least 21 years old. Black tie is optional; dress as formally as you like. Organizers hope guests will embrace the theme with some sequined denim jackets, vintage flair, shoulder pads and bouffants or mullets.

Parent and student volunteers complete all aspects of the gala. By getting involved, individuals can meet people, have fun and support the school.
