Sparkman Wins Cheer State Championships

Sparkman Cheer Co-Ed Varsity State Champs

Sparkman High won the recently held AHSAA State Cheer Competition in the Varsity    Co-ed Division. This was the 33rd title for the varsity squad in school history. “I am incredibly proud of how hard this team is working this year and the level of difficulty we’re putting on the mat,” said Kaitlin Longino head coach of the cheer Senators. “This group put on a great performance at the State Championships and we are working hard in preparation for Nationals in Orlando in February.” The roster for the State Champion Senators included: Senior- Madison Fletcher; Juniors- Tia Barnes, Breyona Benford-Parks, Gabrielle Betts (Captain), Ava Bruder, Scarlett Gokee, Neeli Harwell (Captain), Dallas La Grand (Captain), Ashli Potts, Sydney Ratcliff, Joey Solomon (Captain); Sophomores- Larissa Bailey, Kamrin Brown, Danika Cancel; Freshmen- Ayana Hughes, Zaria Johnson, Victoria Sams, Desiree Witherspoon.

The James Clemens Jets took runner-up in the Class 7A Varsity competition trailing first-place winner Vestavia Hills.

Sparkman Cheer Junior Varsity State Champs

To go along with the varsity squad from Sparkman which won a recent state title, the junior varsity cheer squad recently won the Alabama State Championship in the Co-Ed Division. Coached by Katelyn Richard, the Senators’ squad consisted of: Senior- Paul Byrd; Juniors- Hazel Akins, Anabelle Campbell, Nateviah Jones, Payton Mecham, Brooklynn Merriweather, Mariah Nelson, Riley Beth Rowe, LaZariah Sanderson; Sophomores- Riley Habshey, Erica Harrison, Adyson Rymer, Ava Westrom; Freshmen- Catherine Anderson, Jaidyn Brown, Elliona Caquias, Hailey May, Chelsea McCarthy, Isabella Romero, Kayla Smith, Peyton White.
