Activities at Madison Public Library has something for everyone

MADISON – Sessions at Madison Public Library this month has something for all ages.

On Dec. 5, anime fans will be happy with a nighttime movie flick, “One Piece Film: Red,” from 6 to 7:45 p.m. The film combines action, adventure and shounen (largest category for manga and anime that appeals especially to male teenagers).

In the movie, Uta is the most beloved singer on the planet. She plans a live show in a remote locale to reveal her true identity. However, Uta is concealing a dangerous secret.

The auditorium will open at 6 p.m. Patrons can bring food and drink into the auditorium. The film version is in original Japanese with subtitles.

A seasonal craft for sewing will guide beginners to create an heirloom Christmas stocking. This session on Dec. 6 will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Anyone who is 16 years old or older can attend. The library will not provide fabric for this sewing project. Each participant must bring these items:

• One-half yard of woven fabric for the outside area of the stocking. No stretchy material.

• One-half yard of woven fabric for lining the stocking. No stretchy material.

• (Optional) One-fourth yard of woven fabric (not stretchy) for the stocking’s cuff. The cuff’s recommended fabrics are quilting cotton, calico or flannel.

For questions about fabric selection or assistance in sourcing fabric, send a message to the library’s makerspace staff. Registration is required; to register, visit www.calendly. com/madisonstudio/sewing- stocking.

On Dec. 7, a special treat will be a holiday concert by Huntsville Concert Band. Marsha Asquith, Music Director, will lead the instrumentalists in their program on Dec. 7 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Huntsville Concert Band will perform a ‘wintry mix’ and holiday favorites at Madison Public Library.

This band celebrated its 60th anniversary season in 2023-2024. Each year, the band presents several free concerts for the public and performs at Huntsville’s annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies, various civic events and at senior citizens’ residences.

The all-volunteer Huntsville Concert Band is a nonprofit organization. Membership is open to anyone who plays a band instrument. The band does not require auditions.

The Teen Takeover at Madison Public Library is a weekly timeslot for teenagers to ‘take over’ the Teen Lounge — or the back patio during comfortable weather — and do whatever activity that they want to pursue, such as making pin-back buttons, sketching and coloring, playing board games or the WiiU . . . or just ‘hang out.’

On Dec. 10, Teen Takeover’s hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. For more information, email Alyx at akimyohn@ hmcpl.org.

The Adult Sewing session on Dec. 10 will produce a reuseable gift bag with a drawstring. This session will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Individuals who are 16 years old are welcome to attend.

This sewing project targets beginners. Registration is required; to register, visit www.clendly. com/madisonstudio/ adult-sewing-giftbag. The library will provide all materials. For information, email nbahr@hmcpl.org.

“Art and Soul” on Dec. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. is open to teenagers for painting. The participants can flex their creativity, relax and have fun with painting.

For a non-traditional Christmas movie, the MAD Movie-A-Thon-ORama on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. will feature “Die Hard.” Bruce Willis portrays New York cop John McClain who single-handedly takes on a high-rise full of terrorists.
