Broadway Theatre League claims standing ovation with new season

HUNTSVILLE – Broadway Theatre League has announced its 2025-2026 season’s shows, which offer classic nostalgia, hilarious adaptations and innovations for the stage.

The upcoming season promises six premieres for the Tennessee Valley, one classic and special shows:

• “Back to the Future – The Musical” – Sept. 30 – Oct. 5. The movie favorite is now a Broadway musical with Marty Mc-Fly realizing he has been time-transported to 1955, thanks to the time-machine automobile that scientist Doc Brown has built. Will Marty change the future?

• “shucked” – Dec. 1621. The Tony Award-winning comedy is a corn-fed, corn-bred romp to satisfy any guest’s appetite for downhome fun.

• “Hadestown” – Jan. 9-11, 2026. The winner of eight Tony Awards in 2019, “Hadestown” combines the tales of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and that of King Hades and wife Persephone into a haunting, hopeful experience.

• “The Sound of Music” – Jan. 27 – Feb. 1, 2026. This classic musical has prompted us to remember our favorite things for 65 years. The impish but maturing Maria weaves a romantic tale with the talented von Trapp family.

• “& Juliet” – Feb. 24 – March 1, 2026. This funfilled musical flips the script for the immortal story of Romeo and Juliet. What if Juliet had not ended it all and gained a second chance at love – on her own terms? The show is brimming full of pop-music classics.

• “Mrs. Doubtfire” – March 27-29. The incomparable Robin Williams presented a tour de force in the movie, and now the stage version revisits that hilarious ‘dress-up’ story of a family that lives their best lives together.

• “Water for Elephants” – May 5-10, 2026. The bestselling novel comes to life on stage in this spectacle- filled new musical. A young man stows upon a train only to discover the remarkable crew of a traveling circus. For the Community Show lineup, “Dino Light!” on Oct. 21 recounts a scientist’s work that brings a friendly dinosaur to life. The charming antics of “Popovich Comedy Pet Theater” is scheduled for Feb. 11-12. The Ukrainian circus performer will present his 30 pets, including a Shetland pony, rescued cats and dogs, geese, doves and parrots.

For the Season Special shows, “PlayStation – The Concert” on Oct. 23 promises legendary video games with great visuals and surround sound. On Dec. 5-6, the showmanship is supreme with “Richard Thomas in Mark Twain Tonight” by Hal Holbrook in this one-man show. “The Choir of Man” on Feb. 13-14 has a cast of nine men combining harmonies and dance in tribute to a pub.

OASYS Inc. is season sponsor.
