Mayor Ranae Bartlett discusses road project funding, upcoming events

MADISON – In Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett’s weekly newsletter last week, she touch on a few upcoming plans and excitement over much anticipated funding to widen a main roadway in Madison.

Along Madison’s eastern perimeter, motorists will find a long-waited reprieve with appropriation for widening Slaughter Road. The U.S. Congress has appropriated $3.5 million to expand the roadway. “Our thanks to U.S. Rep. Dale Strong for securing this funding. Stay tuned for a project timeline,” Bartlett said. See related story on page 1A.

The City of Madison, along with the population of the United States, is eyeing the country’s ‘semiquincentennial’ . . . or, in simpler terms, the nation’s 250th birthday. “Madison is getting ready in a big way,” Bartlett said. “Madison’s America250 Planning Committee is working together to plan fun, engaging events that bring our community together while honoring our shared history.”

A free program with Madison Parks and Recreation Department, the Helping Hands Club will meet on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. through March 26. The club will gather “individuals of varying abilities together to give back to the community through meaningful service projects,” Bartlett said.

Another outreach headed by Parks and Recreation, “All Abilities Night Out” will be held on Feb. 14 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Madison Community Center. “The free, inclusive evening offers a fun and welcoming space for everyone to socialize, participate in group activities and connect with peers,” Bartlett said. All Abilities Night Out will be held once each month on a Saturday.
