Debbie Overcash leads Torch Technologies as top benefactor in Huntsville Heart Walk

MADISON – Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital don’t survive, often because no one nearby knew CPR. However, concerned companies and individuals, like Torch Technologies inc. and specifically Debbie Overcash, responded to the need with the 2026 Huntsville Heart Walk.

The event is affiliated with American Heart Association – Alabama.

Huntsville Heart Walk on May 9 at Big Spring Park witnessed volunteers who walked for the cause, along with individuals who had solicited donor contributions before the event. A snippet from the fundraiser’s tagline stated, “Extraordinary starts with you.” ‘Extraordinary’ aptly describes efforts of Torch as the top company for the Heart Walk, and Debbie Overcash of Madison as the lead individual. Overcash works as Senior Executive Administrative Assistant at Torch. “Together with the help of the community, Torch finished as the top fundraising company and team, raising $51,518.01 in donations,” according to a release. “Additionally, our very own employee- owner, Debbie Overcash, raised $42,522.87, earning the spot of number- one fundraising individual,” the release stated.

Overcash has qualified as top fundraiser for nine consecutive years, “an accomplishment I’m very proud of and one that would not be possible without the support of dear friends,” she said. “The wonderful company I work and walk for, Torch Technologies, was the top fundraising company in 2017 and has been the top company since 2019.”

“At Torch, we take the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and Heart Ball very seriously. Every walker, every dollar donated, means more people are trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone,” Overcash said.

“Since American Heart Association was founded in 1924, deaths from cardiovascular diseases have been cut in half,” Overcash said. “My walk is personal. Many people, very near and dear to me, are with us today because of the huge strides made by American Heart Association’s research. I walk for those dear family and sweet friends, as well as friends who I will never meet.”

Debbie and her husband Tommy Overcash have lived in Madison for 40-plus years and in Madison County for more than 45 years. “We have three sons (Cameron, Chandler and Mason), two daughters- in-law and six precious grandchildren,” Debbie said.

Schools, municipal government and civic clubs have recognized Overcash. Recently, The Village of Promise honored Overcash as “2026 Volunteer of the Year.”

Her recognition includes 1991 Parent Volunteer of the Year, Madison County Schools; Consultant of the Year, Junior Achievement; Honorary Life Membership, Alabama State PTA; Patriot Award, 2000 Bob Jones High School; 2001 Madison Rotarian of the Year, Rotary Club of Madison; 2002 Madison Family of the Year; 2005 Sustainer of the Year, Junior League of Huntsville; and inaugural presentation in 2023 of Madison Visionary of the Year Award, Madison Visionary Partners; and numerous other honors.

In addition, Torch has announced that employee-owner Debbie Overcash and Freedom employee-owner Tyce Hudson will serve as Co-Chairs for the 2027 Huntsville Heart Ball that benefits American Heart Association. “We look forward to supporting their leadership and continuing to advance the mission of building healthier lives and stronger communities in the year ahead,” the release stated.

Torch was complimented as a Heart Ball sponsor in 2026. “The Heart Ball was an inspiring evening dedicated to advancing heart health, celebrating progress and supporting lifesaving research and education. Together, we’re helping drive meaningful impact for healthier communities,” the release stated.
