Hill inducted into Kappa Delta Pi
Brandi Hill of Madison was recently inducted into the Auburn University Montgomery chapter of Kappa Delta Pi international honor society. Kappa Delta Pi members make up the top 10 percent of those entering the education field, and award-winning and outstanding practicing educators.
Goglin inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Stephanie L. Goglin of Madison was recently inducted into the University of North Alabama chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society for the 2002-2003 academic year. Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest, largest and most selective honor society that recognizes academic achievement in all fields of higher education.
Sirten awarded scholarship Joshua Sirten of Toney has been awarded a full-tuition Jacksonville State University Leadership Scholarship. He was selected as a result of his leadership roles and extracurricular activities as a senior at Sparkman High School. He is the son of Christina and Pete Sirten.
Sparks gets research grant Madison native Jeff Spark, a graduate student at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, has recently received a grant for studying bacteria that produce a polyester that is useful in medical procedures. Sparks is one of 55 students receiving fellowships and scholarships this year through the Alabama Space Grant Consortium. Sparks wants to test whether Pseudomonas oleovorans will grow faster in simulated "weightlessness" than it does under normal gravity. The strain of bacteria produces within its cell a biodegradable and biocompatible form of polyester. Sparks received his $22,000 NASA Space Grant Fellowship in ceremonies at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center on May 2. He is one of ten students who received graduate fellowships. He is a graduate of Bob Jones High School.
Delehman, Whitworth earn degrees The University of South Carolina at Columbia has announced that two students from Madison graduated during spring commencement. Christina Maria Delehman received a bachelor's of arts degree with a major in experimental psychology. Allison Lynn Whitworth received a bachelor's of science degree with a major in criminal justice.
Selvidge receives music award Nicole Selvidge of Madison is the recipient of the $4,200 Presser Music Scholar Award for outstanding achievement in the fine and performing arts. Selvidge is a senior voice student majoring in music at Birmingham-Southern College and is the daughter of Luciana and James Samuelson.
Faulkner announces 2003 grads Faulkner University at Montgomery recently announced its graduating class of 2003.
Among those who graduated are Kamisha Nikara Turner, Jon Scott Liddie, Lisa Laveral Hughey, James Craig Beaty, Ryan Blake Mathis and Rashida S. Dore, all of Madison.
Mitchell earns social work degree Mathew Mitchell of Madison recently completed a bachelor's degree in social work at Saint Leo University.
Byrnes, Corbin make dean's list Kristina Marie Byrnes of Madison and Sarah Joy Corbin of Harvest have been named to the Berry College dean's list for the spring 2003 semester. Byrnes, who's major is early childhood education, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel T. Byrnes. Corbin, who's major is psychology, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Allen Corbin.
Madison students graduate from UNA University of North Alabama students from the area recently completed requirements for graduate or undergraduate degrees. They are: Rita S. Mintz of Madison, master of business administration; Vesper Humphrey of Madison, bachelor of science in music; Christopher Patrick Cosgray of Madison, bachelor of business administration; Amy Leigh Blackwelder of Madison, bachelor of science in nursing; Tameka Pantricia Holmes of Madison, bachelor of science degree.
Laurence graduates from Troy State Andrea Clarice Laurence of Toney recently graduated with a master's degree from Troy State University.
