Madison Senior Center holds silent auction next week

BY GREGG L. PARKER

Collegiate merchandise, serving ware and even a crock pot are up for bids in Madison Senior Center’s silent auction.

The silent auction will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Nov. 28 through Dec. 2. Anyone can stop by the senior center and bid on items. No entry fee is charged.

“All are welcome to come in and bid on the items,” activities coordinator Joy Edwards said. “On Dec. 2, the bid sheets will be taken up, and we’ll call out the winners’ names. If someone with a high bid is not in attendance, we’ll call them to come by.”

The center staff decided to have another auction because the “last one was so much fun,” Edwards said. The previous auction’s profits helped with funding for general recreation projects, center director Natalie Buckley Rowland said.

Center members and employees are donating the auction items. “We have a lovely, large turkey platter, an Auburn University blanket, a black canister set, set of Christmas ‘Nutcracker’ soldiers and many Christmas items, large crock pot and many more items,” Edwards said.

Auction proceeds will help to fund trips to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and the General Jackson Riverboat in Nashville.

The center’s special events in December start with vocalist Gareth Bryant at noon on Dec. 7. On Dec. 9, members will take a bus trip to the Nightlife Theater in Nashville. Diane Cline with the Madison Garden Club will lead a craft assembly at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 13.

“Keisha Fox with Gentiva Hospice will give a holiday program at noon on Dec. 14,” Edwards said. Sylvia Oakes with Alabama cooperative extension service will visit at 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 20.

“Our Christmas party begins at 11 a.m. on Dec. 22. We’ll break for lunch at 11:30 a.m. and have more partying from noon to 1 p.m.,” Edwards said.

The center will be closed from Dec. 26 through Jan 2.

Madison Senior Center’s address is 1282 Hughes Road. For more information, call 256-772-6242 or visit madisonal.gov.
