Patriots end regular season on a high
Bob Jones celebrated Senior Night in a big way on Monday night in the regular season finale for both the girls and boys teams against Huntsville.
In the boy’s game, playing two games in three days seemed to energize the players as the Patriots put up their best offensive output of the season to defeat Huntsville 78-60 and finish the regular season at 27-1.
Both teams came out hot as Bob Jones shot 61 percent from the field in the first half with Reggie Ragland leading the way with 14 at the break. Huntsville led 23-21 after the first quarter but Ragland and Jeffrey Moss dominated play in the second quarter as Bob Jones pulled away for a 45-37 halftime lead.
Ragland was an efficient 6 of 8 from the field including 2 of 2 from three-point land. Moss was also 2 of 2 on three-point shots and had 12 in the first half. Will Powell had 13 for Huntsville in the first half.
In the third quarter Bob Jones built their biggest lead of the game at 66-46 on a jumper by Travon Landry. Landry had one of his best games of the season scoring 16 on 7 of 10 from the field. Jeffrey Moss finished with a game high 20 points and 8 rebounds. Will Gibson returned to action and hit a three point shot as the reserves got ample playing time in the fourth quarter.
Before the game, seven seniors were honored. They were: Devin Jackson, Brandon Harris, Jemel Harper, Reggie Ragland, Jeffrey Moss, Tyler Davis, and Will Gibson.
The Patriots have earned the right to host the Area 15 tournament that will start Friday night.
Girls:
Bob Jones 63, Huntsville 49
The Lady Patriots got a bit of a challenge from Huntsville as the Panthers kept it close through the first quarter and trailed Bob Jones only 25-18 after one. But the pressure defense by Bob Jones started to pay off in the second quarter as the Patriots forced turnovers that they turned into points. Bob Jones outscored Huntsville 17-3 in the pivitol second quarter.
Jasmine Jones had 10 in the first half and 12 for the game. China Leary had 10 points including 2 three-point baskets. Tierra Jones had 12 points in three quarters and Katie Colston had 4.
Most of the starters retired to the bench after the third quarter when Bob Jones built a 59-33.
“We’re playing pretty good but I still don’t think we have peaked,” said Bob Jones coach Tim Miller. His team finishes the regular season ranked #1 in the state with a 29-2 record.
Bob Jones will host Decatur Thursday night to start the playoffs in the area tournament.
Six seniors were honored after the game. The six were: DeAsha Campbell, Ariele Polite, Joiden Jennings, Tierra Jones, Jasmine Jones, and Katie Colson.
