Free flu shots available in Madison on Sept. 25

Madison County Health Department will offer free flu shots in Madison on Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Council Chambers in Madison Municipal Complex, 100 Hughes Road.

People who are not vaccinated are placing themselves at risk for a potentially long and serious illness, the health department advises. In addition, anyone in close contact will be at risk for flu.

The vaccinations are available on a first-come, first served basis. Senior citizens should have their Medicare, Medicaid or Blue Advantage cards. A child must be at least six months old to have a shot.

Other flu shot clinics will be held at these locations:

* Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1917 Brandontown Road, Huntsville. Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* District 3E Shed, 4273 U.S. 72 E., Brownsboro. Sept. 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* Monrovia Community Center, 254 Allen Drake Drive, Huntsville. Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

* District 1 County Shed, 9457 Moores Mill Road, New Market. Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Individuals should not attend a shot clinic if they have a bad cold, cough or fever; Guillain-Barre syndrome; severe egg allergy; or past allergic reaction to a flu shot.
