Capt. Stringer, Lt. Williams promoted in Madison Police Department
Two officers in Madison Police Department, Lieutenant Damian Williams and Captain John D. Stringer, have been promoted.

Williams will serve in the Office of Professional Standards as Community Relations Officer. This office “ensures that the department protects and serves our community to the highest standard attainable,” Williams said. “Our goal is to enhance the quality of life of every citizen.”
As community relations officer, Williams will work to strengthen the bond between police and community “by improving communication, educating the public and keeping our community informed about significant city events,” he said.
“I’ve always felt that I was called to serve my country and community,” Williams said. “I like to think that I’m helping bring about positive changes in our city.”
For 16 years, Williams was a police officer for the City of Birmingham. He worked as a patrol officer, investigator and patrol supervisor before moving to Madison in 2006. In the Madison Police Department, he has worked as patrol officer and training coordinator.
Williams is engaged to Brandy Moon, a captain with Madison Fire and Rescue Department. His daughters are Audrey, a student at the University of Montevallo; Laryn and Olivia, Tuscaloosa County High School students; and Margaret, who attends Collins-Riverside Middle School.
Stringer will manage Special Operations and be responsible for the traffic safety, training and school resource units. “I’ll be working with unit sergeants to ensure their units are well trained, equipped and supported in fulfilling their missions,” Stringer said.
Stringer and Williams “will continue to serve as first responders to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” Stringer said.
“I grew up in a law enforcement family. This was the calling that God placed on my life,” Stringer said. “I enjoy serving and being part of an effort that is bigger than any one individual’s wants.”
In 17 years in law enforcement, Stringer has worked as a patrol officer, field training officer, SWAT team member, narcotics detective and defensive tactics instructor. He served as sergeant, lieutenant, in internal affairs and most recently as community resource and public information officer.
Stringer is a lifelong resident of Madison County. “My wife Amanda and I have three beautiful children,” he said.
