MADISON – Principal Nelson Brown and his staff will welcome the faculty on Aug. 12 at Liberty Middle School.

Through Aug. 18, parents can pay fees and donate online by credit card at links for each grade on the Liberty website’s home page (lms.madisoncity.k12.al.us). A student then can present the printed receipt as proof of payment on Aug. 19 to receive a locker assignment and planner.

“I hope to see our new students and parents at our New Student Orientation on Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. and all of our students and parents at our Open House on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.,” Brown said.

At orientation for new students, families will enter at the gym. The staff will discuss first-day procedures, transportation to and from school, schedule changes, a typical day at school, physical education, clubs, athletics and the dress code.

Liberty’s home page also offers a link to “Frequently Asked Questions” in the “Latest News” section.

On the first day of school on Aug. 19, “all students will gather in the gym and those eating breakfast will go to the cafeteria upon arriving to school,” Brown said. “There will be teachers and staff members everywhere if you need help finding where you need to go” and to find the first classes, along with classes throughout the day.

Lockers at Liberty require the use of a combination. “During the first week of school, you will have plenty of practice opening your locker, and your teachers will help you,” Brown said.

Liberty’s school day runs from 8:05 a.m. to 3:08 p.m. Liberty uses the block schedule with core classes each lasting 94 minutes. Elective classes are 45 minutes.
