MADISON – Local Angela Johnson, a Spanish and English teacher at West Limestone High School by day, recently showcased her other talents in Nashville while recording a gospel album.

Johnson recorded the eight-song CD with her youngest sister and Chris Golden, son of Oak Ridge Boys singer William Lee Golden and former drummer for the band.

Having graduated from Abbeville High School and attending Jacksonville State University and Auburn University after that, Johnson always had a love for music, starting with piano lessons in the fifth grade.

Johnson took lessons for five years and started singing soon after with members of her church, who encouraged her to start writing her own songs.

“When I was a kid, because of my household I grew up in, I had a great love for reading and studying the Bible,” Johnson said.

Johnson went to college to become a writer and wrote for a newspaper out of college. Eventually she, her husband and four boys moved to North Alabama in 2009 and settled on a church after a tireless search.

It was there at her church home that Johnson’s singing ambitions were awakened by a sermon series.

“I took it personally and said, ‘Yes, God wants to bless me,’” she said.

Not long after that, Johnson saw an advertisement on television for a recording studio in Nashville – TMC Recording Studio – and called the next day for an appointment to record there.

Johnson’s CD, Only One, represents the different years of her life. Some of the songs were written in the late 1980s, and some of the songs include verses written in November 2014.

More information on the CD, including audio samples and a “donate” button for promotional purposes so the music can reach more mediums, can be found at musicbyangelaculverjohnson.com. CDs can be ordered by sending mail to P.O. Box 1036 Madison, AL 35758 or by visiting the website.
