MADISON – After working for the department for 18 years, Brandy Williams has been promoted to Deputy Chief of Madison Fire & Rescue Department.

Williams previously served as captain. In her new role, Williams will supervise the daily operation and training of fire department employees.

“I began as a firefighter with Madison in 1998. I have been here my entire career,” Williams said.

Williams’ uncle served as a firefighter in Huntsville. “Visiting the fire station as a kid had a big influence. After high school, I decided to volunteer in my community to make sure that this was the career path I wanted to pursue,” she said.

Williams is proud of her department’s recent progress. “We have purchased LUCAS (chest compression system) devices for all ALS (Advanced Life Support) trucks that increase the chances of restoring a pulse in a patient that is in cardiac arrest,” she said.

“We have recently been evaluated by ISO (Insurance Service Office), and our rating changed from a Class 3 to a Class 1,” Williams said.

After a busy day at work, Williams can say she has had a good day wen “we have made a positive difference in someone’s life or day, whether it is an emergency or showing a kid the fire truck.”

She replaces Jeff Birdwell, who has accepted the position of Director of Huntsville-Madison County Emergency Management Agency.

After graduating from Buckhorn High School in New Market, Williams earned an associate’s degree in health and physical education from Calhoun Community College and a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach.

Currently, she is a candidate in the Executive Fire Officer program with the National Fire Academy. Williams is a lifelong resident of Huntsville.

Her husband, Lt. Damian Williams, works as second shift commander in the patrol division of Madison Police Department. In their free time, Brandy and Damian Williams enjoy traveling.
