City hosts Fourth of July bash at Dublin

MADISON – Get ready to salute the red, white and blue at Madison Parks and Recreation Department’s “Stars and Stripes Forever 4th of July Celebration.”
The celebration will kick off at 2 p.m. Inflatable amusements and games will be open until 7 p.m. Entertainers will perform until 9 p.m. Food vendors will keep the public well feed and hydrated throughout the day and night until the event closes after fireworks at sundown around 9 p.m.
“We continue to build off of last year’s wildly successful daylong event,” event coordinator Gayle Milam said. “We want everyone to come out and enjoy the activities, concert and fireworks, and make a day of it. What better way to celebrate America’s birthday than together with the community.”
Moms, dads and their youngsters can take a cool break on the giant, 62-foot water slide, slip-n-slide and two other water features. Other amusements will include a 70-foot obstacle course, a monster truck combo, princess carriage combo and more.
Children can play BINGO, ring toss and other games.
Local entertainers will add music to the mix with performers like Megan Robinson and Just Gracey. Several groups will present demonstrations of their skills, such as karate and martial arts exercises and dance routines.
Special guest Jonathan Wyndham, singer/songwriter and recording artist from NBC’s “The Voice,” will perform at 7 p.m. WZDX Fox 54, 104.3 WZYP 94.1 and Nash Icon 93.3 will provide additional activities and games. MadisonUp will schedule performing artists throughout the day.
“At dark, a free fireworks show promises to be the best in the Tennessee Valley,” Milam said.
“For safety purposes, Kid’s Kingdom will be closed on July 4. Handicap parking only will be allowed at Dublin Park,” Milam said.
Event parking will be available at Bob Jones High School, and the city will offer air-conditioned shuttle service from Bob Jones to Dublin. Visitors should park in the school’s south parking lot. Shuttle service will open at 1:45 p.m.; the last bus will depart Bob Jones at 8:45 p.m. Bus service will resume after the fireworks.
A public safety team with the city’s public works, parks and recreation, fire fighters, police officers and HEMSI employees will have a command post onsite and assist with any medical or safety needs.
