Campbell awarded as Distinguished Young Woman

MADISON – Ashlie Campbell of Madison, the current reigning Distinguished Young Woman of Madison County, earned awards for her dance talent, interview skills and onstage composure at statewide competition in Montgomery on Jan. 20.

Ashlie participated onstage in the fitness category and won a Fitness Award and accompanying $700 scholarship.

A senior at Bob Jones High School, Ashlie won the Madison County title in June 2017. She also earned the talent scholarship for an outstanding jazz dance solo at the countywide program. Thanks to generous local donors, the Madison County program awarded $6,200 in cash scholarships in 2017.

Ashlie’s parents are Mike and Maggie Campbell.

The Distinguished Young Women scholarship program, formerly known as America’s Junior Miss, promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women from all over the country. The county-level program is open to all incoming senior high school girls in Madison County. Contestants can participate free of charge.

Participants in the Distinguished Young Women program have the opportunity to meet new friends and acquaintances around Madison County. They participate in Life Skills workshops on interviewing, public speaking and more topics.

These young women share their creative talents and earn scholastic achievements to help pay for their college education.

Ashlie has been successful in both academic and extracurricular activities. At Bob Jones, she serves as a student ambassador and is involved in Student Government Association. She serves as vice president of National Honor Society and is a member of National English Honors Society.

Currently, she is a company dancer at The Dance Company in Madison and is a member of Lindsey Lane Baptist Church in Athens. After she graduates in May 2018, Ashlie plans to attend Auburn University and major in business, along with continuing to dance.
