Dog Ball jumps on ‘Raise the Woof’ for 2019 theme

MADISON – The 30th anniversary of Dog Ball has marked it theme, “Raise the Woof,” for the 2019 event, hosted by Greater Huntsville Humane Society.

This fun-filled event also mixes sentimental tributes to local dogs who have made a difference in the daily lives of their owners. Dog Ball’s venue will be the South Hall of Von Braun Center on Feb. 2.

“Please join us to celebrate all dogs as we ‘raise the woof,'” spokesperson Sue Morgan said. “During the event, the humane society will present 50 ‘Very Important Dogs’ or VIPs from our community — some of whom are available for adoption.”

“Each dog has a unique story, which is shared as each one takes a turn strolling down the runway. We also feature veterans who have inspiring stories about their service dogs,” Morgan said.

The evening begins at 5:45 p.m. with a social hour, giving guests time to meet and greet the dogs, participate in the silent auction and enjoy the company of friends and neighbors from across North Alabama. Following social hour, guests will enjoy dinner and the runway presentation of dogs.

This year’s silent auction includes many dog-related items, along with fine jewelry, local art designs, vacation packages, animal portraits, veterinarian services and much more. The live auction will spotlight two fire hydrants that local artists painted with themes for both University of Alabama and Auburn University fans.

In addition, guests can bid to win tickets to the 2020 Westminster Dog Show and a $2,000 VISA card for trip expenses.

Tracy Barrett is serving as chairperson of Dog Ball 2019.

Individual tickets cost $85. Group and sponsorship tickets and tables also are available. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, whose mission is to further the humane care and treatment of companion animals and provide adoption services for unwanted, homeless animals.

For more information and details about sponsorship opportunities, call 256-881-8081 or visit thedogball.org. For tickets, visit TheDogBall.GiveSmart.com.

“Remember, this typically is a sold-out event so make plans now to attend,” Morgan said. “We look forward to seeing you there.”
