Unbeaten Bob Jones shuts out Grissom 42-0
MADISON – In its quest for a second straight playoff berth, Bob Jones has dominated the opposition with an explosive offense and dominating defense. The unbeaten Patriots turned it up a notch with a balanced attack in last Friday game at Madison City Schools Stadium.
Host Bob Jones got its first shutout of the season in a 42-0 rout of Class 7A, Region 4 rival Grissom. The Patriots’ previous shutout also came against Grissom, 33-0 in 2022.
“We take some pride to keep people out of the end zone, and we were able to do that,” Bob Jones sixthyear coach Kelvis White said.
In four games so far, Bob Jones (40) has outscored the opposition by a whopping 174-38 margin.
Meanwhile, Grissom, which lost 50-23 to Bob Jones last season, fell to 1-2 overall. The Tigers have not had a winning season since posting a 7-6 record in 2020.
The Patriots scored 21 points apiece in each half, their offense clicking on all cylinders. The Tigers simply were unable to stop a strong aerial attack led by quarterback Gakobey Gill, who passed for 253 yards and a single season best of five touchdowns at the high school level.
“It’s a better scheme and I practice a lot with my receivers,” said Gill, a senior transfer from James Clemens who once had seven touchdown passes in a game for Tanner Middle.
Gill, who now has 952 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and just one interception, connected twice each on scoring passes to Rhys Dorsey and BJ Carter. He also threw a scoring pass to Christopher Caterina.
Dorsey led the Patriots’ receivers with six catches for 109 yards. Carter had two receptions for 93 yards with Caterina adding 37 yards on five catches.
Jaden Rice, who had a team-leading 123 rushing yards on 10 carries, added a 65-yard touchdown run on Bob Jones’ first play from scrimmage in the second half to account for the final scoring margin.
Kaleb Christopher added 56 yards on six carries.
Carter also was among the defensive standouts, ripping the football out of the hands of Grissom wide receiver C.J. Washington for an interception in the first half.
“I got it as he was coming down,” Carter said of the takeaway. “I played the ball, stripped it and came down with it.”
