Madison Academy slaughters the Lions

The Madison Academy Mustangs made easy work out of the Brindlee Mountain Lions, 42-3.

The Mustangs immediately took the lead in the first quarter when Kam Jackson running the ball 50 yards for a touchdown, making it 7-0 in the first few minutes of the game.

Khyle Jackson recovered a fumble on the next possession to give the Mustangs the ball back.

Quarterback Joe Dobson Hamlett ran the ball 20 yards downfield, followed by an eight-yard carry to the 12-yard line by Marcus Sease to set up a Hunter Olive touchdown reception to put the Mustangs up 14-0.

Khyle Jackson set up the Mustangs’ next score when Dobson took the ball in from to put Madison Academy up 21-0.

The beginning of the third quarter started of shaky for Madison Academy.

On the first play, Dobson slipped twice with the ball, almost dropping it.

But after a pass completion to wide receiver Chris Clouser, Dobson attempted to run the ball but his play was defeated.

The Mustangs added a Bennett Smith field goal after the drive stalled

The Mustangs also had a great start to the third quarter with Khyle Jackson carrying 20 yards.

Chris Clouser connected with Ben Seabrook for a touchdown to increase the lead before Brindlee earned their first and only scoring play with a field goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Kam Jackson caught a pass complete and ran from the 33 to the 10 before getting tackled before he could complete the run. He redeemed himself during the next play by closing out the scoring and putting the team to 42 points.

“The team played good, tried to control the game offensively and defensively,” said Madison Academy head coach Eric Cohu. “The guys came out with enthusiasm.  We have some things to work on. We’re getting ready for next week against West Limestone. They are a good football team, a playoff 4A team. So, we’re hoping to take care of business.”

The Mustangs will host West Limestone Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
