Man out on bond for Madison bank robbery arrested on another bank robbery charge
Two Huntsville residents have been arrested following a bank robbery Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the People’s Bank on Beltline Road in Decatur.
Ronald Lewis Henderson Jr., 24, and Tavares Antwan Oliver, 34, were arrested following a high-speed chase that resulted in the one-car wreck and the suspects fleeing on foot.
After questioning the suspects, police determined that Oliver was out of the Madison County Jail on bond from an earlier arrest related to a bank robbery in Madison in November.
The two men allegedly entered the People’s Bank at approximately 10:30 a.m. and demanded money from the tellers.
The men appeared to be armed.
The men left the bank in a gray Pontiac Grand Am with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Detectives Ellie Green and Jeff Clem happened to be in the area and saw the men running from the bank.
As the detectives attempted to stop the suspects, they fled in their vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Patrol Officers joined the detectives in the pursuit southbound on Highway 31. The suspects lost control of their vehicle and wrecked on Hwy 31 S, just south of Mill Street.
The suspect vehicle was the only vehicle involved in the wreck and no injuries resulted from the accident.
The two suspects fled the wrecked vehicle on foot and officers pursued the men and took them both into custody.
Cash and a firearm were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
Henderson and Oliver were subsequently arrested and each charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.
Their bonds have not yet been set.
Both remain in the Decatur City Jail pending transfer to the Morgan County Jail.
The FBI is assisting with the investigation, as federal bank robbery charges are possible.
The investigation is ongoing.
