Susie Sanderson Serio; April 30, 2012

Susie Sanderson Serio, 89, of Huntsville, passed away Monday, April 30.

Mrs. Serio was born in Athens, Alabama, the eldest daughter of Shelby and Beulah Mae Sanderson of Capshaw, and the third of nine siblings.

She met her husband of 67 years while she was working on Redstone Arsenal during WWII. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was active in several civic organizations.

Survivors include husband, Andrew F. Serio; sons, Michael S. Serio and wife, Lynn, of Nolensville, Tenn.; Robert A. Serio and wife, Peggy, of Huntsville, and Joseph A. Serio and wife, Winora, of Huntsville; sister, Reba Walton of Kansas; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at noon Friday, May 4 at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Manna House, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Huntsville Hospital.
