The Brook hosts brooktoberfest, a block party for the city

Billed a block party for the city, “brooktoberfest” is set for Oct. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Brook, 8573 U.S. 72 W.

The Brook first hosted brooktoberfest in 2011. “We had so much fun, we decided we’d do it again. Everyone’s invited and welcome to come out for an afternoon of fun for the whole family,” lead pastor Rev. Brian Mayfield said.

All attractions at brooktoberfest are free.

The Brook members organize brooktoberfest for love of city and community. “We were thrilled to play a small part in the Madison Street Festival two weeks ago,” Mayfield said. “Our community is an incredible place to live.”

“We also know there’s no greater way for people to connect than when we serve together. So our people absolutely love planning and hosting this event,” Mayfield said. “Who doesn’t love a great party? We’re ready to have some fun!”

A main attraction, concessions will include corn dogs, nachos and “our soon-to-be famous Corn Cob Dippers (submerged in butter). They are amazing,” he said. The Brook members also will serve soft drinks, candy treats and desserts.

Carnival games will range from “‘old school’ to ones you’ve never seen before,” Mayfield said. Games will be open for Jacob’s ladder, football toss, soccer kick, bowling, strength contest, pumpkin ring toss and basket ball shoot. Inflatable amusements will cater to all ages — even an obstacle course.

“We’re incredibly excited about our music lineup this year, who are all local, homegrown artists: The Crooked Toes, Estoria and Brent Morgan,” he said. Mayfield will appear with Estoria members on WAAY-31 TV at 4 p.m. on Oct. 19.

In addition, football fans won’t miss the big game. Televisions across The Brook’s campus will broadcast college football. “Come hang out, enjoy the game, eat some food, win a prize and go home happy,” Mayfield said.

The Brook has Sunday worship services, along with preschool and children’s activities, at 9 and 10:45 a.m. Youth and adult study groups meet through the week.
