AUBURN – Students at Auburn High School are working to honor Alabama soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. They need help in finding photographs of five Madison County soldiers.

Most people are aware of the Vietnam Wall, built in 1982 in Washington D.C. by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. The wall honors all Vietnam veterans and hopefully helps in healing the nation’s wounds from the Vietnam War.

“As they continue their mission, they are striving to match a face with every name on the Vietnam Wall through their interactive digital Wall of Faces, as well as in the future education center,” Blake Busbin said. Busbin teaches advanced-placement U.S. History at Auburn High.

To help fulfill this mission, Busbin’s history students at Auburn High are seeking help to provide photographs to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers from Alabama.

“As of January 2016, five of Madison County’s eight casualties in the Vietnam War still do not have photographs representing them,” Busbin said. “Your help in finding photos of the following fallen heroes from Madison County would be greatly appreciated:”

* James Phillip Brown of Harvest

* Raymon Horace James Jr. of Madison

* Roy Lee Moore of Madison

* Robert Thomas Nelson of Madison

* Willie Lewis Wallace of Madison

To-date, volunteers have not located photos for 618 Alabama soldiers who were among the 1,210 casualties in the Vietnam War.

Any individuals who have information or photographs of these heroes, contact Blake Busbin at Auburn High School by emailing wbbusbin@auburnschools.org.

In addition, families and friends can submit photos and remembrances to the Wall of Faces site. To contribute, visit vvmf.org and click the “Wall of Faces” link. On the website, individuals can search by name; an advanced search can find veterans by state, county, branch, rank or date of casualty.
