School board to honor swim team at Jan. 6 meeting

The Bob Jones High School swim team and special needs students are expected to be top news at the Madison City School Board meeting, Thursday, Jan. 6.

Head Coach Mike Gunner, along with the swimming and diving teams, will be honored at the meeting, beginning at 5 p.m. at Central Office.

The boys’ swim team captured the Class 6A state title in December at the University of Alabama Aquatics Center for the seventh year in a row.

“Anytime the kids get recognized is a good thing,” Gunner said. “It shows a lot of support from the school, the board, it’s another level.”

The team will also be honored at city council meeting Monday, Dec. 10.

Maria Kilgore, director of elementary instruction for Madison City Schools, will address the Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) requirement of work hours and also address economic issues with AOD students finding jobs.

Other business actions, the board is expected to approve or deny minutes from the Oct. 31 and Dec. 9 meetings; change order # 2, Madison City School Mass Grading Package; Architect Agreement for the Liberty Middle School HVAC Controls; change order #1, Roof Replacement at Heritage, Madison and Rainbow Elementary Schools; Bid 11-1, Bob Jones High School Wrestling Building; approve an agreement with iHigh.com; and approve the November 2010 Financial and Bank Reconciliation Statements.
