Randolph ruins area championship for Madison Academy

Randolph defeated Madison Academy 54-50 in the Area 14 Championship on Feb. 14 at the Randolph School.

The Raiders scored first and maintained a lead during most of the game, but the Mustangs fought to keep it close.

The Mustangs trailed 27-26 at half, but evened the score to 41-41 by the end of third.

Spencer Palmer, who led Madison Academy with 35 points, scored 3 points with 32 seconds left in the 4th to close Randolph’s lead to two, but Randolph’s Michael Reiney quickly expanded it.

Reiney made two free throws with 21 seconds left in the game to secure the area championship.

Bren Marschner was the leading scorer for the Raiders with 24 points. William Richardson had six assists and nine rebounds for Randolph.

James Ratliff had five rebounds for Madison Academy.

After the game, members of the All Area Team were announced.

Raider’s team members included Marschner, Richardson, John Martin and Nicholas Kuczerpa.

Ratliff, Palmer and Kerryon Johnson represented the Mustangs.
