Mustangs defeats Elkmont, 42-0

BY SCOTT WRIGHT

The second round matchup between the Madison Academy Mustangs and the Elkmont Red Devils got off to an incredibly fast start.

The Mustangs received the opening kickoff and promptly marched down the field in just over five minutes to post the first score.

On the very first Elkmont offensive possession, Chandler Trach rocked the Red Devil running back, causing a fumble that gave the Mustangs a short field that they took advantage of with a Hunter Olive touchdown run to push the score to 14-0.

The Elkmont offense would find some success before a Hunter Olive interception gave MA the ball back. This time the Mustang offense would take their time and score on an Olive to Nick Haas corner route to go ahead by three scores at 21-0.

The teams traded interceptions late in the second quarter with the Mustangs getting the better end of the deal as Hunter Olive did his best Michael Vick impression, diving over the Elkmont defense into the end zone to bring the halftime count to 28-0.

The first half provided a surprise as the Mustangs were truly dominant on both sides of the ball.

The second half brought a surge from the Elkmont faithful as they marched the ball down the field. However, their first potential scoring drive skidded to a stop as an incomplete pass on fourth and goal from the two gave the ball back to Madison Academy.

The teams exchanged turnovers as a Red Devil fumble was quickly followed by a tipped ball interception. The Mustang defense would get another fourth down stop. This time the Mustangs would capitalize with Hunter Olive’s second long fade route to Nick Haas for a touchdown.

This would make the score 42-0 with eleven minutes remaining in the game. Yet another three and out from the MA defense allowed the Mustangs to run the majority of the time off the clock. This time-consuming drive was capped off by a Logan Hamlett touchdown run.

This would be the final count as the Mustangs completed this dominant performance. The Mustangs return home for a third round matchup with Glencoe next Friday night.
