Red Raiders too tough in early season

BY SCOTT WRIGHT

This early season test for the Mustangs proved to be a daunting task. The Decatur Red Raiders, an outstanding 6A team, came to the campus of Madison Academy and brought the fight to the Mustangs.

An extremely tough, defensive first half saw the Red Raiders lead 30-24. The Red Raiders were lead early on by Chad Watkins, a great shooter with 12 points.

The Mustangs were able to hang tough with a strong 6A opponent behind 15 points from Joshua Langford. The second half was tough offensively for Madison Academy, as Decatur played very tough defense and the Mustangs began to turn the ball over.

The Red Raiders pulled away late in the fourth quarter on free throws. The final score would be 68-52. The Mustangs were lead in scoring by Joshua Langford with 23 points.

The Red Raiders put three players in double figures to pace an even night scoring-wise. The Mustangs will be right back on the floor Monday night against 5A Hartselle.
