WinShape Camps give traditional camping with a message

Madison youth can enjoy a traditional summertime pastime while growing in their Christian faith.

WinShape Camps will be held at Asbury UMC on July 9-13.

This year, The Brook and Wall Highway Baptist Church are sponsoring WinShape Camps. The host church for location of the camp is Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road. Chick-fil-A also is supporting the event.

Camp dates are July 9-13. Children who will enter grades 2-7 are eligible.

No doubt, campers will stay busy. For sports and recreation, youth will participate in archery, basketball, flag football, gymnastics, soccer, wiffleball, secret ops and fast food. For the arts, they will have crafts, painting, drama, music, dance and digital photography.

“The Bible study theme this year is ‘The Extraordinary,’ based on Ephesians 3:20-21, highlighting the extraordinary Biblical characters of Esther, Gideon and Zacchaeus,” Asbury UMC Director of Children’s Ministry Julie Durling said.

WinShape Camps material does not endorse any specific doctrine or any denomination. “No, it is unashamedly Christian with no particular denominational doctrine,” Durling said.

WinShape Camps were founded in 1984 by Truett Cathy of Chick-fil-A. “He put his dream into motion by creating a camp experience that was focused on challenging young people physically and spiritually. Now, decades later, that dream continues to shape young people through summer camps that are out of this world,” Asbury volunteer Leigh Christian said.

WinShape Camps for Communities provide a professionally trained staff to create the most fun and meaningfulness. “Whether the kids like soccer or science, there’s something for everyone,” Christian said. “WinShape Camps for Communities combine sports, recreation, arts, Bible study and worship into one unforgettable week.”

“Many children in our community aren’t able to go on vacations, be involved in many activities or even attend camp,” Christian said. “Countless fond memories of our childhood (relate to) these activities. We want to share this experience for those unable to afford it.”

“Businesses and individuals can donate $184 to sponsor one participant to this rewarding and lifetime changing experience,” Christian said. “You can make such a difference by supporting this event.”
