Smith running for District 1 seat

Heather Smith has announced her candidacy for Madison City Council District 1.

Smith is a social worker with Huntsville City Schools.

Smith has been a resident of Madison County since 1996 and made Madison City her home in early 1998 when she and her husband Martin started their family.

“I am very excited to be a candidate for the City of Madison at such a critical time in the growth of our city,” Smith said. “ The support and encouragement of my two daughters Brigit and Kaitie, who are both in the Madison City School System, has made me realize that my determination and caring attitude will serve the people of this great city well.”

Smith is a graduate of Troy State University in Montgomery and graduated with honors with her master’s degree from Alabama A & M University, and became a licensed Social Worker through the State of Alabama.  She has a background in the business world in both for profit and non-profit companies.  Heather has 20 years of experience in community service and leadership throughout the communities of Montgomery, Huntsville and Madison.  In addition, she has spoken publicly on mental health issues and has been a strong advocate for children of all ages.
