Madison Community Band headlines gazebo concert on Aug. 9

The audience at the Madison Gazebo Concert on Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. will enjoy the sounds of Madison Community Band (MCB).

Madison Community Band has founded in 1993.

MCB has been performing since its founding in 1993. The musicians have entertained at Panoply Arts Festival and U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Concerts by the River in Decatur, Christmas Past Festival in Fayetteville, Tenn., and the Lakeside Summer Concert Series at Guntersville State Park.

These musicians volunteer many hours of rehearsal time to fine tune their upcoming performances. Band members range in age from teenagers to senior citizens.

Dave Ryan is music director and conductor.

MCB’s mission is to provide a venue for the performance, enjoyment and growth in instrumental music. The band promotes music appreciation across North Alabama and south central Tennessee and encourages youth to experience live, musical performance.

The majority of MCB members have ensemble experience from high school, college, professional bands or musical groups. Madison Community Band affords an opportunity that most of its members would not have to continue playing their instruments in a group setting.

MCB’s repertoire includes traditional marches in the spirit of John Phillip Sousa, patriotic music, American and classical standards, TV and movie themes, ‘big band’ charts and Christmas favorites. They perform show music from Broadway productions like “West Side Story,” “Show Boat,” “Mary Poppins” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

In addition, MCB members are active in small ensembles that feature brass and woodwind players. These ensembles perform at corporate events, weddings and community gatherings year-round.

MCB is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity.

To join Madison Community Band, a member must have a minimum of two years of playing experience or private lessons. Each section is open for new instrumentalists.

Rehearsals are held at Grace United Methodist Church, 2113 Old Monrovia Road in Huntsville on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Madison Community Band’s mailing address is P.O. Box 1214, Madison, AL 35758. For more information, call Ryan at 256-461-0028, send email to dsryan@knology.net or visit m-c-b.org.
