Woosley leading youth at The Brook

As a child, Chip Woosley realized he destined for the ministry.

People asked him, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Woosley answered, “A missionary.” Woosley is the new youth pastor at The Brook, 8573 U.S. 72 W.

In youth ministry, the “hardest challenge is helping students understand and process the false goods that the world is trying to sell them and how God is enough for everything,” Woosley said.

“The world promises much to these teenagers when it says if you have this, become this or try this, then you’ll experience a life without regrets. Instead … it leaves you empty-handed,” he said.

Woosley emphasizes that God never fails them, never forsakes them.

In Woosley’s years in seminary and in ministry, Al Jackson, head pastor at Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, most influenced his approach to ministry.

“The first way … is his heart for the nations. He truly believes when Jesus gave the Great Commission that this wasn’t just for those in service but for everyone,” Woosley said. “His heart not only yearns for the nations, but his church is intentionally involved in supporting, praying, hosting and going.”

Secondly, Jackson challenged him “not to major on the minors, but to major on the majors … to preach the fullness of God’s word with boldness, not to water it down,” Woosley said.

Woosley also learned “when you take a ministry job, you should look at it as a place to stay and invest and build relationships, until the Lord calls you somewhere else or home to be with Him.”

A Huntsville native, Woosley attended Westminster Christian Academy. He and wife Kelly have one son, Sawyer.

Youth at The Brook meet on Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m. The first hour is devoted to worship and teaching called RPM, followed by small groups that “focus on building relationships with the students and understanding how we can walk alongside of them,” Woosley said.
