MADISON — Madison Police announced closings ahead of the “Run through the Roses” 10K and 5K race.

The City of Madison sponsored event is Saturday May 4 with the 10K race starting at 7:00am and ending at 9:00am. The 5K race starts at 9:00am and ends at 10:00am.

“Please be aware race routes will be closed to vehicles,”  police said in a statement . “Road closure will begin prior to the start of each race and will remain closed until safe to reopen. For safety reasons, the Madison Police Department is asking those who live and work along the race routes to please remove any vehicles from the roadway until after the races. We appreciate your support.”

Race coordinator Kristen Kulavich assured safety this year for runners.

“What separates this race from others in the state is that Madison Police totally close off all the streets on the race course,” Kulavich said.

Runners who are finished with the race or spectators are allowed to watch the race from different points along the course during race hours. Those who do not finished by 10:00 a.m. will have to run along the side of the road.
